BBC Green explained

All you ever wanted to know about BBC Green

What is BBC Green?

BBC Green is the new green and sustainable living website from BBC Worldwide.

What is BBC Worldwide?

BBC Worldwide is owned by the BBC. The company makes money from a range of commercial businesses linked to BBC output which helps the BBC to keep the licence fee as low as possible.

BBC Worldwide draws on BBC content for its magazines and websites, including GoodFood, Gardeners' World, Good Homes and Top Gear. These titles are aimed at helping consumers to make the right decisions in their everyday lives.

Background to Green

The BBC has long been producing factual and entertainment programming that covers environmental and what are broadly labelled "ethical" issues.

BBC Worldwide has also undertaken extensive research into our changing consumer attitudes: Big Britain.

The results show that a large proportion of Britain is "ethically aware, environmentally conscious", and that a sizeable number of us are "conscientious consumers". However, it also showed that there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty about which sources can be trusted.

What will BBC Green do for me?

Our aim is to cut through the confusion surrounding environmental and ethical issues, and to help you to live a sustainable lifestyle.

We understand that you can't do it all and that everyone has different priorities. We simply want to help you make the right choices for you and your family.

What do we mean by "green"?

We understand the term as taking a responsible approach to using the natural resources that exist on the planet – be they animal, mineral or vegetable. The phrase "ethical living" is often used to describe these kinds of issues.
